The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has announced that registration for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 will begin on August 14, 2026. Candidates seeking admission to postgraduate engineering, science, architecture, and humanities programs, or aiming for PSU recruitment, can submit their application online through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) portal, gate2027.iitm.ac.in.
IIT Madras is conducting GATE 2027 on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB) GATE, under the Ministry of Education. This edition marks the 45th year of the exam and introduces several notable changes, including a new Robotics and Automation (RA) paper, a revised syllabus updated after five years to align with current industry requirements, and updated paper codes for the XE/XH/XL streams.
As per the official schedule, candidates can complete registration without a late fee until September 21, 2026. The application window will remain open with a late fee until September 30, 2026.

Notable Changes This Year
- A new Robotics and Automation (RA) paper has been introduced
- The syllabus has been revised after five years to reflect current academic and industry standards
- Registration will require DigiLocker integration along with live facial verification/recognition for candidate authentication
- Eligibility has been extended to include third-year BTech students
The exam will be conducted as a computer-based test across six days, in morning and afternoon sessions. Each paper will carry 100 marks across 65 questions, to be attempted over three hours.
How to Fill the GATE 2027 Application Form
- Visit the official website, gate2027.iitm.ac.in
- Click on the GOAPS portal link and select "New Candidate Registration"
- Register by entering your name, date of birth, mobile number, and other basic details
- Once registration is complete, your GATE enrolment ID and password will be sent to your registered email
- Log in and fill in personal and educational qualification details
- Upload the required documents
- Pay the application fee and submit the form

GATE 2027 Scorecard
The GATE 2027 scorecard will be released on the official portal, goaps.iitm.ac.in, and will be issued only to candidates meeting the qualifying marks for their respective paper. The scorecard will include personal details, raw marks, normalized marks, score, and country rank. It remains valid for three years for admission purposes and for one year for PSU recruitment.
Candidates are advised to keep all documents ready in advance and go through the information bulletin carefully, given the changes introduced in this year's registration and verification process.
