The admission process under the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme for 2026 will begin tomorrow, July 28, on the official website, csab.nic.in. This scheme, run by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, offers Foreign Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) admission into undergraduate engineering, architecture, planning, and science courses at NITs, IIEST Shibpur, IIITs, SPAs, and a few other participating technical institutes. This year's admission process will be organised by IIEST Shibpur.

How Shortlisting Works

Shortlisting of candidates across all participating institutes under DASA is based on JEE Main scores. The scheme reserves up to 15% of the sanctioned seats at each participating institute for DASA candidates, and within this quota, 5% of the total DASA seats are further reserved for Children of Indian Workers in the Gulf (CIWG).

Who Is Eligible to Apply

Candidates applying under the DASA scheme must meet the following conditions:

  • Hold a valid JEE Main 2026 score
  • Be born on or after October 1, 2001
  • Have secured 75% or above marks in Class 12

The scheme is open to all foreign nationals studying in any country, including India, as well as Indian nationals studying abroad. For Indian nationals specifically, candidates must have completed at least two years of education — inclusive of Class 11 and 12 or their equivalent, and not beyond that — in a foreign country during the last eight years, and must have passed their qualifying exam from abroad as well.

Candidates are strongly advised to go through the detailed eligibility criteria mentioned in the official information brochure before applying, since specific conditions may vary depending on the applicant's category and country of residence.

Registration Fee

Candidates applying under DASA UG 2026 will need to pay a registration fee of USD 300 at the time of filling out the application form. This amount also covers the first semester's tuition fee as part of the registration process.

What Candidates Should Do Now

With registration opening tomorrow, candidates planning to apply under the DASA scheme should keep their JEE Main 2026 scorecard, Class 12 mark sheet, proof of nationality or residency status (as applicable), and payment details ready in advance. Since eligibility conditions differ for foreign nationals, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs, and Indian nationals studying abroad, applicants should carefully review the information brochure on csab.nic.in to confirm they meet all the relevant conditions for their specific category before starting the registration process.
